NO REGULAR PLAY

Greg Paulus and Nick DeBruyn met as 8 year olds growing up in St. Paul, Minnesota, bonding over an early mutual love of hip-hop and jazz legends such as A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock. This deep-rooted connection allows them to understand each other in a rare and profound way.

Paulus performed trumpet at local jazz clubs in his teenage years and went on to study jazz/classical at the Manhattan School of Music. Together they later traveled to Cuba’s Havana to study Afro-Cuban rhythm, music and culture.

But the seeds of their evolution were really sewn in 2006 when both DeBruyn and Paulus moved to Brooklyn and started exploring the burgeoning underground dance scene. After attending numerous Wolf + Lamb parties, the duo became infatuated with their aesthetic and sound.

No Regular Play became integral to the Wolf + Lamb family when they took up residence in the Marcy building, a melting pot for creative minds. This move allowed a more fluid approach to their productions and new collaborations were formed. Since 2008 they’ve had a string of releases on the label, including the “Owe Me” and “Too Dramatic” EPs, as well as their debut album, “Endangered Species”, in 2012.

Subsequent material from the duo has shown up on a slew of respected labels including No. 19 Music, Supplement Facts and HAKT Recordings. Never to be tied to one breed or style, in 2012 they released the track “Rain (All Day)” on Cut Mistake Music, which was reconstructed and performed as a 25-minute piece by Paulus and his father for improvisation/electronics with the Minnesota Orchestra. A year later they were able to take that experience to the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra to perform a special live set with members of the orchestra. In 2014 No Regular Play was honored by Lincoln Center at their Young Patron’s Gala for their unique and innovative contributions to the arts.

No Regular Play has been an integral part of Crew Love, and has taken their live set all over the world, including festivals such as Movement and Piknic Electronic, and venues such as Fabric and Output. Their second full length album, “Can’t You See”, was released in 2016 on Crew Love Records.

Their debut track ‘Games’ on Hot Creations was rooted with a funk-infused hypnotic bassline and immediately created a buzz around the project. Whilst breakthrough single ‘Infinity’ has become an irrepressible juggernaut with total YouTube views now in excess of the 10 million mark.

Infinity Ink have recently made the track ‘Aya’ available as a free download from their official site www.houseofinfinity.co.uk. The track takes its lyrical cues from Sixties psychedelic rock, and the genesis of ‘Aya’ neatly encapsulates the Infinity Ink spirit of chaos yielding to creativity. MARIO DUBBZ

ay Area born and raised, Mario Dubbz comes from a family of music lovers and vinyl collectors. Seemingly always exposed to rare and different types of music that most kids were not exposed to back then. Learning to play the drums at a very young age, he gained knowledge of beats, counts, and timing. Spinning house music came naturally, and he got the hang of it quite fast. So after of nearly a decade of battling in house dance circles at raves, undergrounds, and clubs, Mario took his energy from the dance floor and transferred it to the turntable. Inspired by all the local and international talent he heard in the “San Francisco rave days” his style became more apparent. “Funky, Groovin, Disco house with a touch of Soul”.

Mario Dubbz’s selection of Funky and soulful House Music has caught the ears of promoters and househeads across the West Coast. Inspired by early 80’s Funk and Soul, you can hear the influence of this era in his sets today. For over a decade Mario has been on a consistent tear spinning at every club, bar and lounge from SF to San Jose on a weekly basis. Inspired by Sf house legends, Mario brings that SF sound to whatever city he happens to find himself in. Mario has shared the stage with house music heavyweights such as Johnny Fiasco, Derrick Carter, CZR, Angel Alanis, David Harness, Stacy Kidd and Roy Davis Jr just to name a few…and has dropped sets in Miami, Portland, and Los Angeles for crowds of up to 10,000!

Whether is a deep set at a lounge, to peak hour rave madness, Mario has a set appropriate for any crowd or situation in front of him, displaying the versatility he is known for.

PUNKPHUNK

With every transition and twist of an EQ knob, PunkPhunk entices his crowd to join him on a musical journey, as he carries listeners through time and space, soaring high through piercing treble notes and down through the valleys of warbling bass in an emphatic search of freedom from the burgeoning limitations of day-to-day life. Like an eagle, PunkPhunk refuses to be caged. From isolating and powerful vocals, to pumping bass lines, his sets keeps the crowd on its toes and draws them in even closer as he tells a story each and every time he hits the decks. In addition to his djing, his liberated spirit shines in his impressive house resume, for he is not only a dj, but a producer, and promoter as well. In-fact, he is a veritable triple threat that has been in the scene for nearly 20 years. The coming years bring much promise for PunkPhunk, as he sets his sights abroad in the hopes of spreading love all over the world, one dance floor at a time.
